To Do.

Artists’ studios… gorgeous hikes… small-scale farms… world-class mountain biking… cross-country skiing and snowshoeing… the Sunshine Coast offers so much. Here we share just a few of our favourite things.

Soames Hill Hike

Close to Quiet Cove and offering a spectacular view out over islands and ocean, Soames Hill is one of our favourite hikes. The final push to the top is quite steep and can be slippery over roots and rocks, especially if it’s raining. On damp days, we head to Cliff Gilker Park (see below) instead. But when the sun is shining, it’s hard to beat Soames for something so beautiful, so close.

Cliff Gilker Park

You will find Cliff Gilker Park a short drive up the highway toward Roberts Creek. This beautiful park offers a network of trails that wind through incredibly green forest and past some scenic waterfalls. Even on rainy days (well, not pouring rainy days) we like to walk here because of the tree cover.

Smuggler Cove Marine Provincial Park

Smuggler Cove is north of Sechelt and provides some of the most beautiful trails and views we know. The arbutus trees along these trails are stunning, and the whole “loop” takes about an hour and a half. If you’re heading north up the Coast and looking for a beautiful hike, we definitely recommend Smuggler Cove.

Dakota Ridge

Dakota Ridge really is a winter wonderland. We visit it regularly for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Located up a logging road just past Wilson Creek on the way toward Sechelt, the drive to Dakota Ridge can be extremely challenging! The Sunshine Coast Regional District which operates Dakota Ridge notes that access is restricted to four-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires and chains. There is, however, a private shuttle service to Dakota Ridge as well.

Gibsons Public Art Gallery

Conveniently located in the village in Lower Gibsons, the GPAG is a local gem. This non-profit organization hosts ever-changing exhibits by local artists. Entry is by donation.

Sunshine Coast Tourism Site

The Sunshine Coast Tourism Association maintains a very helpful website, full of information on places to explore, things to do, farmers markets, festivals, and more.
